I have loved the sound of music for as long as I can remember, which at my age, has been a long time!
I feel there is something magical about music. It can stir your emotions. Music can get your foot to tapping, your hands to clapping.
Soft music can often calm a restless baby. Just as sometimes music can calm a troubled mind. Music can set the tone for relaxation after a busy day.
My daddy loved to sing. Daddy was a song leader at the church for many years.
My daddy and mommy, Aunt Dorothy Rose, and Uncle Johnny Reece would sing gospel songs quartet style, the kind that sings four-part harmony. When they sang, it was a heavenly sound for sure!
I began singing as a toddler, probably two or three years of age. Daddy would have me stand in front of the pulpit and sing, Jesus Loves Me, The B-i-b-l-e, Deep and Wide, Zacchaeus was a Wee Little Man, and many of the children’s songs you probably remember as a child. Of course, a lot of people thought a toddler singing when they could barely pronounce some of the words correctly was really cute!
My late husband and I both loved music. We were both Christians and felt that music and singing was a ministry that we could do together as a team.
My husband played the guitar, and I sang. Through the years, we have had many wonderful musicians and singers join us. We traveled and sang over a great portion of Central and Eastern Kentucky and a few surrounding states for 40 plus years.
We had a weekly broadcast on a local radio station for eighteen years that we sang on. We have sung on WLJC-TV Christian television located in Beattyville, Kentucky, many times throughout the years.
I’m still singing in my local church and occasionally other places. And I’m very thankful that my husband supports my singing ministry.
I’ve slowed down, but certainly not stopped singing. I hope to be singing until the day that I leave this world.
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Bible Verse of the Week
Psalm 28:7
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
